Brighton's famous West Pier finally arose again from the ashes in 2030, following a small injection of cash from The Lottery Fund in 2029. It tries to maintain the success of the I-360 Tower built close by and is an attempt by the West Pier Trust to erase the memory of the failed 'Starlingrad' retail scheme that proved to be such a massive failure and had to be abandoned and demolished back in 2025.
The West Pier Trust took the unsual step of commissioning a massive inflatable building, resembling the original pier. Finance for the daily inflation is achieved via e-payments from tourists and locals either via the internet or at the old ticket office on the entrance deck. The inflation only lasts about two minutes...just enough for the 'kiss me quick' photos that are so popular on Facebook here. Only downside is that the inflatable cannot be erected at night...apparently the Local Council is worried that the giant inflatable may catch fire! |
